EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Everett J. Matthews, 71, of East Prairie died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004, at his home.

He was born June 1, 1932, in East Prairie, son of Kilmer and Agnes Cooper Matthews. He and Mary Counts were married in October 1962.

Matthews was a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Terry Counts of Sikeston, Mo., Donnie, Anthony, Lee and Jayson Matthews, all of East Prairie; two daughters, Delina Woods and Teresa Woods of East Prairie; two sisters, Magdalene Manning of East Prairie, Ruth Myers of Illinois; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, his parents, a brother and two sisters.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie, with Raymond Grimes officiating. Burial will be in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
