PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Everett Kiefer, 90, of Perryville died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born June 3, 1919, in Perry County, son of Herman and Bernice Zahner Kiefer. He and Lula Brotherton were married Jan. 1, 1940, in Perryville. She preceded him in death Feb. 12, 2002.
Kiefer was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 69th Infantry Division. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
He worked and retired from International Shoe Co., as well as being a farmer all his life. He was a very hard worker, and he loved to work. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and American Legion.
Survivors include a son, Robert "Bob" Kiefer of St. Ann, Mo.; three grandchildren, Sherry (Jerry) Mullins of St. Charles, Mo., Bobby Kiefer Jr. of St. Ann, Judith (Russell) Childrers of Overland, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a very, very special friend, Billie Balsman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula; a daughter-in-law, June Kiefer; his parents; six sisters; and five brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. Friday at Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville. The parish wake will be at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. Burial will be in Home Cemetery with military honors courtesy of American Legion and Delta Team.
