Everett G. Johnson, 85, of Gordonville died Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Lutheran Home. He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Charleston, Mo., son of Fredis and Rosie M. Jones Johnson. He and Helen Glenn were married Oct. 19, 1942, in Charleston. She died May 17, 1993. They formerly lived in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and moved to Gordonville in 1987...

Everett G. Johnson, 85, of Gordonville died Friday, March 31, 2006, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Charleston, Mo., son of Fredis and Rosie M. Jones Johnson. He and Helen Glenn were married Oct. 19, 1942, in Charleston. She died May 17, 1993. They formerly lived in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and moved to Gordonville in 1987.

He was in the U.S. Army from May 10, 1943, to Dec. 25, 1945, serving in the campaigns of Luzon, the Southern Philippines and New Guinea. He was awarded a Bronze Star.

Johnson worked 51 years in the river industry. He worked for Cargill Industries as a towboat master pilot and was a port captain for the Ste. Genevieve Terminal. Upon his retirement, he was recognized as a marine superintendent.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 600 National Maritime Union and was active on the River Industry Action Committee. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of First General Baptist Church in Jackson.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Johnson of Las Vegas, Joseph Johnson of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sandra Keesee of Jackson, a sister, Jean Stearns of Marble Hill, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Luther Rhodes officiating.

Burial will be in Baker Cemetery near Marble Hill with full military honors.
