Everett Eugene Hey, 59, of Jackson died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, after an almost three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Everett Eugene Hey, 59, of Jackson died Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at his home, surrounded by family and friends, after an almost three-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born March 13, 1955, in Coffeyville, Kansas, to the late Lynn and Edna Chaney Hey. At the age of 12, Everett and his family relocated from Topeka, Kansas, to St. Louis, where he graduated from Mehlville High School in 1973.

Everett served in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1977.

He and Jeanne Neels were married Aug. 30, 1975. She preceded him in death May 16, 1993.

In 1978 they relocated to Cape Girardeau where they had two daughters, Christina Lynn Hey of Salem, Oregon, and Heather Ann (Chris Hoffmann) Hey of St. Louis. Everett married Tina East LeGrand on June 13, 2002, in Jackson.

He graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1980 with a degree in accounting. He worked in public accounting, achieving his CPA license in March 1985. He partnered with Jerry Roe and Debbie Beussink Eudy Feb. 1, 1986, to open Beussink, Hey and Roe, PC.

Everett served on the board of the Cape Girardeau American Red Cross from 1995 to 2001. He was also involved in various community organizations including the Cape Girardeau Jaycees, Cape Area Youth Soccer Association, Noon Optimists and Missouri Society of CPAs.

He was a 25-year member of Cape Girardeau Country Club and former member of Kimbeland Country Club. His favorite activities included golf, video poker, fishing and time at Kentucky Lake.

In addition to his wife and daughters, he is survived by four stepsons, Jacob (Chrystal) LeGrand of Carrollton, Texas, Robert (Chelsey) LeGrand of Jackson, Michael LeGrand stationed at Little Rock Air Force Base, Arkansas, Christopher (Carrie Schlotter) LeGrand of Barnegat, New Jersey; three stepgrandchildren, Allie and Lane LeGrand of Jackson, and Ryder LeGrand of Barnegat; a brother, Jeffery (Mary) Hey of Ballwin, Missouri; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Rhonda) Neels of Cape Girardeau; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kevin Mann officiating.

In lieu of flowers, Everett requested memorials be made to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, 2536 Boutin Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
