Evelyn M. Welter, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, to George and Novella Hilderbrand Sample. She and Jerome A. Welter were married Jan. 14, 1947, in Cape Girardeau. He died April 30, 2011.

Mrs. Welter worked at Florsheim Shoe Co., and later worked in the Central High School cafeteria 14 years. She was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Janice Obermann and Debbie (Marty) Evans of Jackson; two grandchildren, Nicole Singh and Ronald (Karen) Obermann Jr.; a great-grandchild, Isabelle Singh; five brothers, Larry Sample of Jackson, Kenny Sample of Memphis, Tenn., Lester Sample of Cape Girardeau, Tony Sample of Jackson and Johnny Sample of Fruitland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Michael W. Welter; a son-in-law, Ronald L. Obermann Sr.; a brother, Gary Sample; and a sister, Freda Hunze.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
