Evelyn L. Kasten, 96, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Aug. 11, 1927, in Pocahontas to Oscar E. and Elsa Gerler Rauh. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, also the church of her marriage to Eugene W. Kasten on May 9, 1948.
Evelyn earned a two-year diploma from the former Pocahontas High School and completed her education at Jackson High School.
Evelyn and Eugene worked many years together at Rental Land in Cape Girardeau. Evelyn was the bookkeeper, and Eugene worked in all the other aspects of the business. They had been married 67 years when Eugene passed away June 1, 2015.
Evelyn was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where she sang in the choir and was a member of Ladies Aid and Altar Guild.
Evelyn enjoyed every aspect of caring for her family. She liked vegetable and flower gardening, canning, fishing and keeping her grandchildren at every oportunity. She was also an accomplished seamstress and previously served as a 4-H sewing instructor.
Loving survivors include two children, Mark (Beverly) Kasten of Pocahontas and Heidi Kasten of Shawnee, Kansas; two grandchildren, Amy Kasten-Yates and husband, Gibbie, of Jackson and Jennifer (Daniel) Hoskins of Kirkwood, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Blake Kasten, Hailey Yates and Riley Yates and Jack and Joey Hoskins; and a sister, Mildred (late E. C.) Younghouse of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Virginia (Paul G.) Winter; and Eugene's sister, Ruth (Gene) Sample.
Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m., Monday, March 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
The Rev. Douglas Breite will conduct a memorial service at 11 a.m., Monday, March 11, at the church. Evelyn will privately be laid to rest next to her late husband, Eugene Kasten, at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
