Evelyn Mae Cheek, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 23, 2015, at her home. She was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Chaffee, Missouri, to William James and Avis Vida Smith Ferguson. She graduated from Chaffee High School at age 16. She and Fred G. Cheek were married Aug. 1, 1941, in Perryville, Missouri. They were married 73 years. He passed away May 9, 2014...

Evelyn Mae Cheek, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 23, 2015, at her home.

She was born Dec. 27, 1923, in Chaffee, Missouri, to William James and Avis Vida Smith Ferguson.

She graduated from Chaffee High School at age 16.

She and Fred G. Cheek were married Aug. 1, 1941, in Perryville, Missouri. They were married 73 years. He passed away May 9, 2014.

Evelyn loved God and demonstrated God's grace and love to others in all that she said and did. She was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene in Cape Girardeau more than 50 years, and attended Cape First Church the past five years.

She was a bookkeeper for Shell Oil Co. 10 years and later for Stovall Block & Brick 17 years in Cape Girardeau. She worked in the production department at Cheekwood Studios the last 30 years.

Survivors include three sons, Fred David (Nancy) Cheek of Mesa, Arizona, James Lynn Cheek and William Douglas (Cathy) Cheek of Cape Girardeau; three grandchildren, Amy Lynn Cheek (Chris) Lewis, Jason Scott (Holly) Cheek and Andrew Douglas (Alexia) Cheek; four great-grandchildren, Matthew David Lewis (age 9), Evelyn Faith Lewis (age 5), Roxanne Rebecca Cheek (age 3 1/2) and Cosette Louise Cheek (age 1); also expecting twin great-grandchildren in April.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Robert Ferguson.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with her pastor, Gary Brothers, officiating. Private burial will be Monday in Lorimier Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Cape First Missions.
