Euna Blanche Statler Smith was born on April 26, 1932, in Detroit, Mich., the first child of Lawrence Herbert Statler and Blanche Euna Ellis Statler. She departed this life on Sept. 8, 2006, in O'Fallon, Mo.

When Euna was a very small child, the Statler family moved back to Missouri, to a farm outside of Jackson, where Euna attended a one-room country school. Three additional children were added to the Statler family, Herbert, Martha and Mary.

Euna attended high school in Jackson for three and a half years, and then transferred to Cape Girardeau, where she graduated from high school in 1949. Euna attended Southeast Missouri State College, where she met her future husband, Robert Smith. After graduation and teaching for several years, Robert and Euna were married on June 6, 1959, at Centenary Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Robert and Euna were blessed with three sons, Mark, Tim and Brad. Euna's focus was on being a wife, mother and homemaker, but found time to be active in her children's school activities, participated in the United Methodist Woman and Church Circles and Federated Women's Club.

The Smiths lived in Carbondale, Ill., Fairfield, Ill., Cape Girardeau, Bridgeton, Mo., St. Charles, Mo., Carterville, Ill., and O'Fallon.
