She was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Bath Springs, Tenn., daughter of Frank and Sally Western Carlyle. She and Raymond H. Matheney were married July 5, 1943, in New Madrid.

Matheney was a member of St. James General Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gene and Carl Matheney of East Prairie; a daughter, Barbara Grubbs of East Prairie; six brothers, Raymond Carlyle of Santa Rosa, Calif., Edward and Harold Carlyle of East Prairie, Sam Carlyle of Little Rock, Ark., Gilbert Carlyle of Commerce, Max Carlyle of Charleston; six sisters, Janie Bush of Kansas City, Kan., Glenda Morgan of East Prairie, Linda Rushing of Cairo, Ill., Bernice Wray of Wickliffe, Ky., Pat Faire of Sikeston, Sue Boyer of Fredericktown; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and a grandson.
