CHARLESTON -- Eugenia Dunn Hinchey, 89, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1993, at the Charleston Manor. She was born Feb. 18, 1904, in Ballard County, Ky., daughter of Samuel Irvin and Lillian Martin Dunn. She married Samuel Brackston Hinchey, June 2, 1928. He died June 13, 1968...

CHARLESTON -- Eugenia Dunn Hinchey, 89, of Charleston, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1993, at the Charleston Manor.

She was born Feb. 18, 1904, in Ballard County, Ky., daughter of Samuel Irvin and Lillian Martin Dunn.

She married Samuel Brackston Hinchey, June 2, 1928. He died June 13, 1968.

Hinchey was a first grade teacher for nearly 40 years. She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and attended training schools in Murray, Ky., and Carbondale, Ill.

From 1928-1974, she taught reading, writing and calculating to children in the Lowell School in Mound City, Ill., the Eugene Field and Mark Twain schools in Charleston, the Bridges School in rural Mississippi County and the R.A. Doyle School in East Prairie.

She had been a resident of Charleston since 1935 and was active in church and community activities all her life.

Hinchey was a leader and teacher in the Methodist Sunday School for many years, a member of the Builder's Sunday School Class and a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Missouri Retired Teacher's Association and a charter member of the Athena Club.

Survivors include a son, Brack Hinchey of Chelmsford, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Charleston, with the Rev. Richard Combs officiating.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston.
