EUGENE SMITH

EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Eugene Wilbur Smith of East Prairie will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Mike Johnson and Burl Britt will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Smith, 79, died Monday, June 3, 1996, at East Prairie Nursing Center.

He was born March 30, 1917, near East Prairie, son of William Leonard and Connie Brantley Smith. He and Dortha Givens were married Nov. 20, 1937.

Smith had lived in Mississippi County all his life, and was a retired farmer. He was a member of Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry Smith of Miller City, Ill., Jerry Smith of Sikeston, Darryl Smith of East Prairie; a daughter, Verna Hyde of Sikeston; a brother, William "Sonny" Smith of East Prairie; a sister, Maxine Prince of Dogwood; six grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
