CHARLESTON -- Eugene F. Smith, 77, of Belleville, Ill., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at his home. He was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Mississippi County, son of Frank and Willie Presson Smith. He and Jean Presson were married May 15, 1942. She died Oct. 22, 1997...

CHARLESTON -- Eugene F. Smith, 77, of Belleville, Ill., died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1998, at his home.

He was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Mississippi County, son of Frank and Willie Presson Smith. He and Jean Presson were married May 15, 1942. She died Oct. 22, 1997.

Smith owned and operated a tire re-capping and trucking company in Belleville many years. He was a member of Winstanley Baptist Church. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survivors include a brother, A.J. Smith of West Covina, Calif.; three sisters, Velma Harvell of Charleston, Gladys Law of Memphis, Tenn., and Maggie Jackson of Covington, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, with Wendell Garrison officiating.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in Charleston after 9 a.m. Saturday.
