Eugene Frederick Schmid of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center at the age of 96.
He was born June 16, 1915, in Edwardsville, Ill., to John Frederick and Lena Margaret Steehlinger Schmid.
Eugene and Selma Isabelle Fagg were married July 25, 1937, in Edwardsville. She died Sept. 8, 1994, in Cape Girardeau.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army.
Mr. Schmid was employed by Standard Oil Co. in Wood River, Ill., for 36 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Mount Auburn Christian Church in Cape Girardeau and was a former member of St. John's Methodist Church and LeClaire Christian Church in Edwardsville, Ill.
Survivors include one son, Thomas John (Kathy) Schmid Jackson; one daughter, Jean Marie Schrumpf of Granbury, Texas; nine grandchildren, Bonnie (Byron) Cuthrell, Tammie (Joe) Billhartz, Christy (Mark) Floyd, Beth Schrumpf, Jennifer Schrumpf, Lisa (Josh) Barrett, Julia (Eric) Pitts, Bryan (Leslie) Schmid and Andrew Schmid; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by parents; his wife; two sisters, Esther Shaver and Bernice Hanke; and two brothers, Edward Schmid and Walter Schmid.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Graddy officiating.
Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.
Memorial contributions may be given to Mount Auburn Christian Church.
