BURFORDVILLE -- Etta Mae Phelps, 96, formerly of Burfordville, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at Heartland Care Rehab Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born June 4, 1902, at Whitewater, daughter of Joseph and Elmina Isaac Stovall. She and Jesse D. Phelps were married June 22, 1921. He died Oct. 2, 1987.
Phelps lived at Burfordville all her married life. She had been at the nursing home since 1988.
She had worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Perryville, Cape Girardeau and St. Louis; and worked at the Small Arms Plant in St. Louis during World War II. She was the oldest member of Burfordville Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Livingston of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Robert Stovall of Crump; a sister, Irene Miller of Perryville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating. Burial will be in McGuire Cemetery south of Burfordville.
