Etta Mae Johnson, 93, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Charleston, Missouri, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 19, 1923, in Caruthersville, Missouri, to the late John Richard Yarbery and Helen Cook Cummings.
Etta married George Johnson of Hayti, Missouri, in April 1940 in Swift, Missouri. He preceded her in death.
She was a cook with the Charleston School District for many years.
Etta was also a member of Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston. She was a missionary, deaconess and mother of the church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and A.W. Yarbery, and two sisters, Johnnie Mae Bracy and Georgia Yarbery.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories one sister, Leanna McElmurry of Cape Girardeau; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Mercy Seat Missionary Baptist Church.
The funeral will be at noon at the church, with the Rev. J. L. Posey officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, with Williams Funeral Home of Charleston in charge of arrangements.
