Estel L. Rhodes, 79, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born Jan. 29, 1920, at Crump, daughter of Elbert and Ruby Proffer. She and Milford Mayo Rhodes were married Oct. 9, 1937. He died Feb. 11, 1999.
Rhodes was a lifelong member of Bethlehem General Baptist Church at Crump.
Survivors include three sons, Melvin Rhodes of Jackson, Ellis Rhodes of Cape Girardeau, Earl Rhodes of Whitewater; three daughters, Vera Mayfield of Jackson, Leola King of Gordonville, and Ladonna Duncan of Paducah, Ky.
Also surviving is a brother, Clann J. Proffer of Jackson; two sisters, Juanita Endert of Calimesa, Calif., Ada Mansker of Kissimmee, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and seven great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Church, with the Revs. Joe Allen and Willis Smith officiating. Burial will be in Stroderville Cemetery near Whitewater.
