KELSO, Mo. -- Ervin Stephen LeGrand, 84, of Kelso died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 31, 1924, in Chaffee, Mo., son of Michael Samuel and Frieda Katherine Koelzer LeGrand.
He and Gertrude Grace Scherer were married Aug. 7, 1945, in Kelso. She preceded him in death Aug. 7, 1996.
Ervin was a prominent farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, a life member of VFW Post 6407 in Scott City, a life member of Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City and a member of 4th Degree Assembly 2283 in Scott City.
Survivors include four sons, Kenny (Cindy) LeGrand and Bill (Pam) LeGrand, both of Kelso, Randy (Nancy) LeGrand of Cape Girardeau and Keith (Julie) LeGrand of Friedheim, Mo.; a sister, Wilma Stephan of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, Brian, Blake, Nick, Luke, Nate, Jake, Zach and Madison LeGrand; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica LeGrand, and a sister, Marie Reeves.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Parish prayers will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus service at 6:45 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Scott City, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in St. Augustine Cemetery in Kelso.
Memorials may be made to the St. Augustine Renovation Fund.
