Ernest S. Baker, 93, of Cape Girdeau, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 26, 1906, in Advance, son of John J. and Eva Cox Baker. He and Ruby Poston were married Feb. 20, 1926, at Jackson. She died March 25, 1997.
Baker worked as a finisher at International Shoe Co. for many years. He later worked at Landgraf Lumber Co.
He was a member of First General Baptist Church and a past member of VFW Post 3838. He sang in numerous quartets over the years. He served in the European theater during World War II. He had lived recently at the Missouri Veterans Home.
Baker was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a sister, Alma Harmen of Cape Girardeau and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Vyron Yount officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
