ANNA, Ill. -- Ernest Christian Diefenbach, 92, of Anna died Tuesday, May 16, 1995, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born March 9, 1903, in Chester, Ill., the son of Fredrick and Mary Ahrens Diefenbach. He married Mary Elizabeth Corzine on Aug. 12, 1938, in Anna.
Diefenbach was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna, serving as congregational chairman and church treasurer. He retired from Florsheim Shoe Co. in 1968 after serving as office manager and spending 44 years in the shoe manufacturing business.
During his retirement, Diefenbach was an active R.S.V.P. volunteer at Union County Hospital, Choate Mental Health and Development Center and the Union County Fair. He served on the board of directors of RAVE in Anna and the Sunshine Inn Community Center.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Richard Diefenbach of Anna and Philip Diefenbach of Moline, Ill.; a sister, Martha Diefenbach of Chester, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, David E. Diefenbach, and a grandson.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and until the time for the funeral service Friday.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna, with the Rev. David Kollmeyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Anna Cemetery.
