WILSON CITY -- Emerson Amos "Sugarman" Mays, 82, of Wilson City, died Sunday, May 21, 1995, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born Nov. 8, 1912, in Augusta, Ark., son of Bert and Henrietta Dorsey Mays. He and Lela Graham were married Dec. 27, 1931.
Mays had lived in Missouri since 1947. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church at Henson and served on the deacons board.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, James and Jerry Mays of St. Louis; four daughters, Christine Brown, Jewel Williams and Mildred Powell of St. Louis, Ruby Jones of Cleveland, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston from 7-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Holly Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. William Watson officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston.
