BERTRAND -- Funeral service for Elza Ayers of Bertrand will be held at 2 p.m. today at Cornerstone General Baptist Church. Larry Kirby and Ted Martin will officiate, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.
McMikle Funeral Home at Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
Ayers, 69, died Monday, April 28, 1997, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born June 18, 1927, in Collinwood, Tenn., son of Earnest Jewel and Bessie Lee Scott Ayers. He and Janice Layne were married April 23, 1953.
Ayers had lived in Mississippi County since 1951. He was a manager with Mayco Manufacturing Co., retiring in 1996. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Monty Ayers of Jackson, Tenn.; four brothers, Ellis Ayers of Iron City, Tenn., Derward Ayers of Waynesboro, Tenn., Buford Ayers of Collinwood, Lavern Ayers of Loretta; four sisters, Faye Stooksberry, Fleta Holt and Edith Graham, all of Collinwood, Betty Johnson of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
