BLOOMFIELD -- Elvin Shipley Smith, 91, of Bloomfield died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Vintage Villa Nursing Center in Dexter.
He was born Feb. 28, 1907, at Zadock, son of Thomas Andrew and Lillie Cox Smith. He and Cleo Bess were married Sept. 29, 1925. She died Feb. 10, 1949.
Survivors include three sons, Howard Smith of Roseville, Mich., James Smith of Detroit, Mich., Joseph Smith of Sebring, Fla.; a daughter, Evelyn Griffin of Bloomfield; two sisters, Lois Watkins of Bloomfield, Ruby DelSanto of Branson; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Edsel Pruett officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bloomfield.
