VANDUSER, Mo. -- Elve Johnson, 93, of Vanduser died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Miner Nursing Center. She was born Jan. 6, 1910, in Blytheville, Ark., daughter of James Andrew and Ada Ellis Hargett. She and R.A.P. Johnson were married March 3, 1928, in Blytheville. He died Dec. 4, 1980...

VANDUSER, Mo. -- Elve Johnson, 93, of Vanduser died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Miner Nursing Center.

She was born Jan. 6, 1910, in Blytheville, Ark., daughter of James Andrew and Ada Ellis Hargett. She and R.A.P. Johnson were married March 3, 1928, in Blytheville. He died Dec. 4, 1980.

Johnson and her husband farmed 30 years, she worked at Black's Store four years, owned and operated Johnson Sewing Center at Vanduser nine years, and was head cook at Sikeston Convalescent Center from 1975 to 1985.

She also served 2 1/2 terms as mayor of Vanduser in the 1960s. She was a member of Vanduser Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Johnson of Benton, Mo., B.T. Johnson of Vanduser; a daughter, Ruth Bramlett of Vanduser; a brother, J.W. Hargett of Los Angeles, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three daughters, a stepson, four brothers, five sisters, two half brothers, two half sisters and two grandsons.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. R.L. Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens at Morley, Mo.
