ELTON SCHMIDT SR.

Elton Gene Schmidt Sr., 70, of Hampton, Va., died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at the VA Medical Center in Hampton.

He was born May 22, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, son of Albert W. and Josie Clingingsmith Schmidt. He married Shirley Joan Mansfield, who died in 1967.

Schmidt served in the U.S. Air Force 26 years, retiring as a master sergeant. He was a veteran of World War II. He had lived in Hampton more than 30 years.

Survivors include a son, Elton Schmidt Jr. of Hampton; two daughters, DeLaine Speer of Las Vegas, Nev., Gayle Doyer of Hampton; and three grandchildren.

There is no visitation.

Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park. Full military rites will be conducted by officials of Whiteman Air Force Base.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
