BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Elmer Underwood, 88, of Bloomfield passed away Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at his home.
He was born June 16, 1925, at Bloomfield, son of Roy and Josie Quick Underwood. He and Anna Lois Cook were married Jan. 30, 1946. She preceded him in death Sept. 29, 1993.
Elmer had lived in Bloomfield all his life. He attended the General Baptist Church, was a member of Masonic Lodge 153, Scottish rite, and was a lifetime member of AMVETS. He was a member of the Bloomfield School Board several years and had served as president.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had been a member of the Screaming Eagles 101st Airborne Paratroopers.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, Ronnie and Linda Underwood of Sikeston, Mo., and Dennis and Donna Underwood of Cape Girardeau; a daughter and her husband, Karen and Dennis Ziegenhorn of Sikeston; eight grandchildren, Jerri Lynn McKenna, Kip Underwood, Jody Underwood, Tracy Ashley, Dez Ziegenhorn, Kelli Hasty, Bart Ziegenhorn and Jackie Fisher; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Steve and John Underwood of Bloomfield; a sister, Geneva Grim of Dexter, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Underwood; a brother, Delmar Underwood; two sisters, Francis and Wilma; and a special friend, Geraldine Graham.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
The funeral will be at noon today at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
