JACKSON -- Elmer "Bill" Sawyer, 82, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 28, 1911, at Jackson, son of Will and Minnie Haase Sawyer. He and Lola McLard were married Sept. 20, 1947. She died Oct. 15, 1955...

JACKSON -- Elmer "Bill" Sawyer, 82, of Jackson, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 1994, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 28, 1911, at Jackson, son of Will and Minnie Haase Sawyer. He and Lola McLard were married Sept. 20, 1947. She died Oct. 15, 1955.

Sawyer had worked at the former International Shoe Co. here more than 20 years, and at the former Jackson Exchange Bank a number of years.

He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, was active in the Men's Club, Lutheran Laymen's League, and Thursday Bible Club. He helped deliver meals with Jackson Senior Center, and was a former member of the board.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Sawyer of Hillsboro, Jim Sawyer of Springfield, Ill., Bob Sawyer of Los Angeles, Calif.; a stepson, Don Bonney of Jackson; a stepdaughter, Shirley Bock of Gordonville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren, and 14 great-step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and brother.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Walter Fehrmann will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
