Elmer Lee Koessel, 70, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Willow Creek Nursing and Rehab in Belleville, Illinois.
He was born Friday, June 14, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Carl and Alma Zierath Koessel.
Elmer was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University. During college, he and his brothers went to Wisconsin to work on the Del Monte farms and also farmed in Egypt Mills. He was confirmed and baptized by the Rev. Mouser at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, where he was currently a member.
Survivors include a brother, Carl Koessel of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Dorothy (Terry Lee) Ank of Cape Girardeau; three nephews, Anthony Ank, Jonathan Koessel and Matthew (Brie) Koessel; great-nieces, Addison and Sahvanna Ank.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Koessel, and nephew, Brian Koessel.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral service will be at noon Monday at the funeral home, with Rev. Barry L. Pfanstiel officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church.
