SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Elmer Phillip Blattel, 87, of Scott City died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 2, 1914, at Ancell, Mo., son of Fred and May Elizabeth Collie Blattel. He first married Evelyn V. Hoffman April 25, 1937. She died July 29, 1992. He later married Alleen Anna Hoffman Wilhelm Aug. 18, 1994...

SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Elmer Phillip Blattel, 87, of Scott City died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 2, 1914, at Ancell, Mo., son of Fred and May Elizabeth Collie Blattel. He first married Evelyn V. Hoffman April 25, 1937. She died July 29, 1992. He later married Alleen Anna Hoffman Wilhelm Aug. 18, 1994.

Blattel had been a salesman with Tom's Chips and at Suedekum Hardware, and had been a manager at Rhodes 101 Truck Stop.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and VFW Post 6407. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Barbara Prenger of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Mary Lou Reynolds of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Pat Burton of Scott City; two brothers, Jim and Bob Blattel of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Doris Holshouser of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 8.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
