CHAFFEE -- Ellen Elizabeth Oakes, 78, of Chaffee, died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born May 16, 1917, in Atlanta, Ga., daughter of Inman and Mattie Harris Busbee. She and Walter B. Oakes were married Dec. 25, 1965...

CHAFFEE -- Ellen Elizabeth Oakes, 78, of Chaffee, died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born May 16, 1917, in Atlanta, Ga., daughter of Inman and Mattie Harris Busbee. She and Walter B. Oakes were married Dec. 25, 1965.

Oakes had been a presser at Watefield Laundry in Albertsville, Ala. She moved to Chaffee seven years ago from Poplar Bluff. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church here.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Eugene Busbee of Moody, Ala., Occo Pair of Oxford, Ala.; two daughters, Opal Huntington of Up-the-Grove, Texas, Ila Morris of Atlanta; four stepsons, Ricky Cobb of Chaffee, David Oakes of Qulin, Rev. L.G. Oakes of Bald Knob, Ark., Glen Oakes of Osceola, Ark.

Also surviving are seven stepdaughters, Brenda Reed of Poplar Bluff, Linda Templeton of St. Peters, Kay Coleson of Chaffee, Alice Henderson of Olive Branch, Ill., Judy Akridge of Campbell, Nellie Oakes of Gatesville, Texas, Joyce Grimes of Osceola; a sister, Ruby Rice of Robinwood, Ala.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; 37 stepgrandchildren; 37 great-stepgrandchildren, and five great-great-stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and stepson.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 4 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. William Marshall officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bassett Cemetery in Bassett, Ark.
