POPLAR BLUFF -- Ellen Belle Judson, 88, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Doctor's Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
She was born Sept. 10, 1910, in Benton to Martin and Marietta Thurman Garner.
She spent most of her childhood and teen-age years in Pratt and Naylor, Mo., where she attended grade school and high school. At age 17, she went to live with an aunt in New Orleans, where she attended business school.
She lived in New Orleans for 32 years and was employed by the Leon Godchaux department store for 27 years.
She married Harold Judson in 1940 in New Orleans. He died in 1958.
She moved back to Missouri in 1958 and went to work for the Rev. Gayle Jackson. She also assisted Bill and Marie O'Guin in managing the Town House Motel in Cape Girardeau.
In 1967, she purchased the Pine Motel in Sikeston and managed it with her sister until it was sold and she retired in 1974.
She moved to Poplar Bluff in 1996.
She was a charter member of the Assembly of God Church in New Orleans, where she taught Sunday school for several years. She was a member of the Trinity Gospel Church in Sikeston.
Survivors include one sister, Geraldine Childs of Poplar Bluff, and several nieces and nephews.
One brother and three sisters preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Davis, pastor of Trinity Gospel Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
