Ella Irma Hightower, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born May 15, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Coley and Effie Walker Squires. She married Charles Hightower, who preceded her in death in 1982.
She was a crossing guard for the Chicago Police Department for many years and a member of the St. James A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Usher Board.
Survivors include: a brother, Elmer Squires of Cape Girardeau; six nieces, Shirley Slaughter, Dollie Farrar and Valarie Squires of Cape Girardeau, Gwendolyn Squires and Delbra Squires Williams of Kansas City, Mo., and Anita Squires Jones of St. Charles, Mo.; and a nephew, Robert Squires of Chicago.
Friends may call from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday at St. James A.M.E. Church.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the church with the Rev. David Allen Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Sparks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
