Elizabeth Layton

STE. GENEVIEVE — Elizabeth "Betty" Layton, 86, of Ste. Genevieve died Sunday, July 14, 2024, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Ste. Genevieve. She married Gerald "Jerry" Layton on Sept. 7, 1957.

Betty was a member of the Ste. Genevieve Hospital Auxiliary and was past member of the Ste. Genevieve Golf Club and the McDonald's Coffee Gals.

She is survived by a daughter, Lori (Ron) Reinagel of Kelso; two sons, Thomas Layton (Connie Wisdom) of Ste. Genevieve and Tim (Annita) Layton of Cape Girardeau; daughter-in-law, Cindy Layton of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Ashley (John) Litzelfelner, Adam (Jackie) Reinagel, Nick Reinagel, Matt (Paige) Reinagel, Erika (Austin) Westrich, Allison Layton (Colby West), Justin Layton, Tasha (Matthew) Cardin, Brittany (Seth) Carpenter and Maria (Jacob) Bray; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald "Jerry" Layton; son, Jeffrey Layton; brother, Eugene Schweiss; father, Harry Schweiss; and mother, Elizabeth (Donze) Schweiss.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve.

Service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at Church of Ste. Genevieve. Burial will be at Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve.
