Elizabeth Carter, 83, 3120 Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1992, at her home.

She was born Dec. 8, 1909, in Charleston, S.C., daughter of Samuel McLurkin and Corrye Elizabeth Poore Estes. She and Joe M. Carter were married June 10, 1933, at Hollister.

Carter was an assistant teacher at Park Elementary School in St. Louis more than 10 years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, and had been a member of PEO more than 50 years.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, James Carter of St. Paul, Minn., Dr. D. Martin Carter of New York City; two sisters, Margaret Christensen of Homeland, Calif., Virginia Fulton of Petaluma, Calif.; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

A sister preceded her in death.

Graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park.

Friends may then call at First Presbyterian Church from 10-11 a.m., and again from 12-12:30 p.m. The Rev. Charles Grant will conduct the memorial service at 11.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
