Eleanor R. Ehlebracht, 87, of Bertrand, Mo., died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Bertrand Nursing Center. She was born Nov. 19, 1915, at Higginsville, Mo., daughter of Martin and Martha Meyer Wegener. She and John C. Ehlebracht were married in 1937 at Higginsville. He preceded her in death in 1981...

Eleanor R. Ehlebracht, 87, of Bertrand, Mo., died Saturday, June 21, 2003, at Bertrand Nursing Center.

She was born Nov. 19, 1915, at Higginsville, Mo., daughter of Martin and Martha Meyer Wegener. She and John C. Ehlebracht were married in 1937 at Higginsville. He preceded her in death in 1981.

Eleanor was a graduate of Higginsville High School and Independence School of Hairdressing.

She had been a self-employed hairdresser. She was also a clerk at Emery Bird Thayer Department Store in Independence, Mo., many years. Mrs. Harry Truman was one of her patrons.

Eleanor thoroughly enjoyed her home, gardening and cooking. She loved to travel to Colorado and visit relatives in Arizona. She was formerly of Cape Girardeau and had also lived in Raytown, Mo., and Independence.

Survivors include a son, Charles S. Ehlebracht of Gladstone, Mo.; a daughter, Harriett Heumann of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Norman Wegener of Phoenix, Ariz., Harold Wegener of LaMesa, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Klussman and Margaret Landwehr of Higginsville; two grandchildren, Lily A. Ehlebracht of Gladstone, Jennifer L. Birk of Charleston, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Rachel, Caleb and Aaron Birk of Charleston.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon and Charles Wegener.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Higginsville. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Harrisonville, Mo.

Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
