SIKESTON -- Effie May Clay, 100, formerly of Essex, died Sunday, May 10, 1992 at the Sikeston Convalescent Center.

She was born Feb. 6, 1892, in Oklahoma, daughter of Samuel A. and Roxy Settles Dabbs.

She was a member of the Rauch-Spence United Methodist Church at Morehouse, and a member of the Methodist Women's Club. She was also a member of the Morehouse chapter of the Eastern Star.

At a young age she worked as a telegrapher and as a post office clerk.

On Nov. 5, 1908, she married Posey Franklin Clay Sr. at Stallo, Miss. He preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1963.

She is survived by two daughters, Dorothy Springs and Dee Bailey both of Sikeston, 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Three sons, one great granddaughter, three sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Charles Buck, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
