MOUNDS, Ill. -- Effie I. Bagbey, 80, of Mounds passed away at 5:54 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Effie was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Mounds, daughter of the late James Cobbs and Victoria Bishop. Effie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mounds, a lifelong member of the Egyptian Country Club and was a five-time Women's Golf Champion. MOUNDS, Ill. -- Effie I. Bagbey, 80, of Mounds passed away at 5:54 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at the Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Effie was born Oct. 20, 1931, in Mounds, daughter of the late James Cobbs and Victoria Bishop.

Effie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mounds, a lifelong member of the Egyptian Country Club and was a five-time Women's Golf Champion. She was a former owner of the Flower Center in Cairo, Ill., for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Cobbs, Victoria Bishop and Ruth Cobbs; and a sister, Claudis Gunn.

Survivors include her husband, William H. Bagbey, DC, of Mounds; two sons, Kris Bagbey of Franklin, Tenn. and Frank Bagbey of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Pam Bagbey of Chaffee, Mo.; a special daughter and niece, Jackie Moore of Mounds; two sisters, Betty Smith of Scottsville, Ky., and Brenda Cobbs of Mounds; one brother, Jimmy Cobbs of Mounds; two granddaughters, Barbara Elfrink and Sarah Holderfield; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call between 5 and 8 p.m. Thursday at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill., and after noon Friday at the United Methodist Church in Mounds.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Mounds, with Pastor Mike Shearer and the Rev. Buddy Walls officiating. Interment will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens in Villa Ridge.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the United Methodist Church, 733 Second St., Mounds, IL 62964, in memory of Effie I. Bagbey.
