CAIRO, Ill. — Edwina S. "Winnie" Stokes, 86, of Cairo died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at her home.
She was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Wickliffe, Ky., daughter of Eddie and Alma Webb Sullivan. She married Bill Stokes.
Stokes taught kindergarten many years in Cairo area schools. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo and Illinois State Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kerry Stokes of Charleston, Mo.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Southern Baptist Church, with the Revs. Tom Hoskins and Bill Gholson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski, Ill.
