Funeral service for Edwin L. Hargens, 926 Jefferson, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Ernest Swartz will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Hargens, 100, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 1994, at Cape Girardeau Nursing Center.

He was born Oct. 12, 1893, at Tilsit, son of Ferdinand and Pauline Kuehle Hargens. He and Ora Weissenborn were married Nov. 30, 1924, at Gordonville. She died Oct. 18, 1993.

After moving to Cape Girardeau from the family farm, Hargens worked at Vandeven's Store, and 27 years at Suedekum and Son Hardware. He was a member of Grace Church, and served in the U.S. Army during World War I.

Survivors include four grandchildren, Gary Hargens of Rio Grande City, Texas, Mike Hargens of Kansas City, Gail Waller of Henderson, Ky., Kim Hargens of Cape Girardeau, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.
