EDWIN KLEIN

CAIRO, Ill. -- Edwin C. Klein, 70, of Cairo died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Daystar Care Center in Cairo.

He was born Sept. 29, 1930, at Cairo, son of George and Doris Bucher Klein. He and Peggy Beeler were married.

Klein was a lineman for Ameritech before retiring. He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church and Elks Lodge No. 651 in Cairo, where he was past exalted ruler. Klein served as secretary and treasurer as well and also served on the ritual team that once placed second nationally.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Bryan Klein of Cairo; two daughters, Amy Brinkmeyer of Cairo and Laura Flanagan of Cape Girardeau; three brothers, Karl Klein of Cairo, George Klein of Prescott, Ariz., and Howard Klein of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Marian Hurley and Karolyn Carr, both of Mounds, Ill.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, a son and two brothers.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patricks Catholic Church. Msgr. Bill McGhee, the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry and Dr. Larry L. Potts will officiate, with burial in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge, Ill.
