VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Edward Earl Shumaker Jr., 45, of Chenoa, Ill., died Monday, Nov. 1, 1993, at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington, Ill.
He was born Nov. 9, 1947, at Cairo, Ill., son of Edward Earl and Emma Francine East Shumaker.
He married Sarah Jane Severs, Aug. 2, 1968, at Pulaski, Ill.
Shumaker served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer.
He lived in Chenoa for 22 years.
He was a graduate of Southern Illinois College at Harrisburg, Ill. He also attended Southeast Missouri State University at Cape Girardeau. He graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy in February 1970.
He worked as an Illinois State Trooper for 25 years at the District #6 State Police Headquarters in Pontiac, Ill.
He was promoted to sergeant on April 1, 1990. He was promoted to master sergeant on May 1, 1993.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chenoa. He was also a member of the American Legion Ben Roth Post, Chenoa; the Illinois State Police Command Officers' Association; and he was a trustee of the District #6 Fraternal Order of Police, Trooper Lodge 41.
Survivors include his parents of Villa Ridge; his wife of Chenoa; a daughter, Shelbi D. Shumaker of Chenoa; a son, Edward Early Shumaker III of Chenoa; a brother, Jeffrey Owen Shumaker of Marietta, Ga.; and three sisters, Trudy Peeler of East Cape Girardeau, Ill., Julie Fleming of Barlow, Ky., Susan Ramage of Metropolis, Ill.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home in Chenoa.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Chenoa, with the Rev. Robert Adelsperger and the Rev. Grant Sension officiating.
Friends may call from 12-2 p.m. Friday at the Villa Ridge Union Church.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. at the Villa Ridge Union Church, with the Rev. Gerald Bethards officiating.
Burial will follow in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, with military rites by the Mounds VFW Post 8891.
