Edna Ellen Welch, 95, of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at The Lutheran Home. She was born March 1, 1906, in Allenville, Mo., the daughter of Dallas Hugh and Sarah Ella Waddle Zimmerman. She married Donald Welch on Dec. 24, 1931, in Oak Ridge, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1959...

Edna Ellen Welch, 95, of Cape Girardeau, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, at The Lutheran Home.

She was born March 1, 1906, in Allenville, Mo., the daughter of Dallas Hugh and Sarah Ella Waddle Zimmerman. She married Donald Welch on Dec. 24, 1931, in Oak Ridge, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1959.

She attended Southeast Missouri State University and Will Mayfield College. She taught elementary school in Advance, Delta, Oak Grove and Randles, Mo. She was active at Maple United Methodist Church and in the Loyal Aiders Sunday school class for nearly 70 years.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Dale Spell of Cape Girardeau; one sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Terry Long of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren, Stacy Jansen of Oakville, Mo., Chris Hulsey of Fenton, Mo., Beth Friedrich of Perkins, Mo., Jennifer Dowdy of Cape Girardeau and Sara May of Baltimore, Md.; and nine great-grandchildren, Nick and Caroline Mary Jansen of Oakville, Adam, Ellen, Hanna and Paige Hulsey of Fenton, Will and Kyle Friedrich of Perkins and Kody Dowdy of Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, three sisters, and one daughter, Donna Sue May, whose husband, Lee J. May of Pasedene, Md., survives.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Don Kuehle officiating. Burial will follow in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maple United Methodist Church Building Fund.
