ALTO PASS, Ill. -- Edna M. Norton, 96, of Alto Pass died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the home of a son. She was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Alto Pass, daughter of Fred A. and Emma McKinley Hartline. She and Don Carlos Norton were married Jan. 9, 1932, in Mound City, Ill. He died Feb. 11, 1992...

ALTO PASS, Ill. -- Edna M. Norton, 96, of Alto Pass died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the home of a son.

She was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Alto Pass, daughter of Fred A. and Emma McKinley Hartline. She and Don Carlos Norton were married Jan. 9, 1932, in Mound City, Ill. He died Feb. 11, 1992.

Norton was a 1930 graduate of Southern Illinois University-Normal. She taught in one-room schools in Tunnel Hill, Landreth and Mount Glen, Ill., from 1930 to 1935, and in alto Pass from 1936 until retiring in 1973.

She was a lifelong member of Alto Pass Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Abram Norton of Anna, Ill.; a brother, James Hartline of Anna; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Alto Pass from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to service time at First Baptist Church in Alto Pass.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Revs. Carroll Toler and Randy Carstens officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery.
