Edna B. Murphy, 93, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at Ratliff Care Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born Dec. 5, 1924, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late James C. and Edna C. Baldwin.

Edna was raised in Jacksonville. She moved to Chicago after she and Wilford J. "Bill" Murphy were married Oct. 31, 1946. She lived in Chicago until the family moved to Cape Girardeau in 1968. She was always active in her church, involved in PTA, Boy and Girl Scouts, and helping out at school while raising her family in a very loving home.

She was a medical transcriptionist with Southeast Hospital until she retired in 1991. She also did transcription work for Saint Francis Medical Center.

After her retirement, she enjoyed visiting her family in Florida and many travels and adventures with her sister. She challenged herself by completing three crossword puzzles daily, but most importantly, she will be remembered by many for her never-ending kindness to others in numerous ways but especially by sending cards and writing notes.

Loving survivors include her son, Steve Murphy (Carol Johnson); daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Blake Esicar; granddaughter, Nikki Landers; and great-grandchildren, Shea Landers and Reid Landers.

She also is survived by her extended family in Florida; sister, Barbara B. Voight; nieces, Leslie Voight, Susan (Richie) Groden and Nancy Voight; and nephew, Paul (Klare) Voight and their families. They will cherish many memories, especially those when opening presents on Christmas mornings with anticipation of what fun and crazy gift they would receive from Aunt Edna.
