EDITH M. MATHIS

BLOOMFIELD -- Edith Mildred Mathis, 73, of Bloomfield, died Friday, Sept. 22, 1995, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Birch Tree, the daughter of Henry and Blanche Lukes Gospel. In 1968, she married Charles Mathis, and he preceded her in death in 1981.

Mathis was a first-grade teacher in the Bloomfield Public Schools, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bloomfield and had served as city collector.

Survivors include two sisters, Kathleen Jensen of Sikeston and Marie Shelton of Poplar Bluff; her granddaughter, Kristie Carner of Wright City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Martin Carner and Vernon Carner, and a brother.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Greg Greason officiating. Burial will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
