Edith Marie Mehrle Eggers, 87, of Jackson passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at her home.
Edith was born November 8, 1927, in Cape Girardeau, the daughter of Werner and Zetta Unger Mehrle. On Sept. 29, 1950, Edith married William M. Eggers. He preceded her in death on May 9, 1996.
Edith lived and worked on the family dairy farm all her married life.
She graduated from Jackson High School in 1945.
Edith grew up in the Baptist faith and in 1952 joined the New McKendree United Methodist Church Family, where she was an active member and past president of the United Methodist Women and the Susanna Wesley Sunday school class.
She also was chairwoman for the Dorcas Circle, past chairwoman of the Esther Circle, former Sunday school teacher and leader of the Greensferry 4-H Club from 1963 to 1981.
In later years, Edith was an avid player of hand and foot and dominoes. She loved to play with her family and card-player friends.
Edith is survived by her children, Ben (Darla) Eggers of Mexico, Missouri, Richard (Marica) Eggers of Jackson, David (Kathleen) Eggers of Lee's Summit, Missouri, and Diane (Lanny) Schweer of Jackson; six grandchildren, Gabriel Eggers of Atlanta, Victoria and Gary Schweer of Jackson and Lucas, Samuel and Klair Eggers of Lee's Summit, Missouri; three sisters, Mary (Homer) Lamb, Margaret Stroder and Alice (Wade) Robertson; and in-laws Dorothy (Leonard) Pfeiffer, Mary Elizabeth (Earl) Szwabo, James Englehart and Harold Kesterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; grandson, Zackary Eggers; two sisters, Virginia (Robert) Heuer and Carolyn (Bill) Ragsdale; in-laws Evelyn (Harold) Berberich, Sarah Kesterson, Joe (Nelda) Eggers, Madonna Englehart and Bob Stroder.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating.
Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
