EAST PRAIRIE, Mo. -- Edith Tanner Bailey, 86, of East Prairie died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, at the East Prairie Nursing Center.
She was born Jan. 25, 1914, in O'bion County, Tenn., daughter of Sam B. and Aurora Kendall Tanner. She and Luther Henry Bailey were married May 30, 1930. He died June 10, 1988.
She was employed for 28 years at Prairie Mfg., retiring on July 19, 1979. She represented the union at conventions in Atlantic City, N.J., and Los Angeles. After retiring she assisted her husband with the Bailey's Shoe Shop in East Prairie. After his death, she operated the business out of her home until retiring once again in 1999 for health reasons.
She is survived by a son, Clarence "Bo" Bailey of St. Louis; two daughters, Margaret Jo and Rozella "Tooter" Kelley of Bloomfield, Mo.; a sister, Juanita Halter of Charleston, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; 22 step-grandchildren; 17 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Larry Smith officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
