SHAWNEETOWN, Mo. -- Edgar R. Lorenz, age 80, of Shawneetown passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo. Funeral service will be Monday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Howard Mueller will officiate. The Missouri Honor Guard will conduct graveside services. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. Monday.
Mr. Lorenz was born April 4, 1920, in Shawneetown, son of the late Martin K. and Bertha Kasten Lorenz. He and Berniece Schlimpert were married Jan. 19, 1947. Mrs. Lorenz survives.
Other loving survivors included two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Paula Lorenz of Sikeston, Mo., and Darrell and Donna Lorenz of Festus, Mo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Jim Buchheitt of Longtown, Mo.; two brothers, Erwin and Melvin Lorenz of Shawneetown, and seven grandchildren, Nathan, Nena, Nick, Dustin and Devin Lorenz, and Tyler and Alex Buchheit.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Mr. Lorenz was baptized and confirmed as a child at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown. He had held various offices within the church, including church elder. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. He was an agent for Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Co. of Missouri for 40 years. He served as judge for the Shawnee Township for 50 years, was a former board member of the Farm & Home Administration and a member of the Perryville American Legion.
