Funeral for Edgar I. Ailor Jr. of Jefferson City was held March 18, 1999, at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City. Dr. Gene Rooney officiated. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery at a later date.

Ailor, 80, died Monday, March 15, 1999, in Columbia.

He was born Dec. 13, 1918, at Peculiar, son of the Rev. Edgar I. and Lura Bell Johnson Ailor Sr. He and Kathleen Johnson were married Feb. 7, 1942, in Advance.

Ailor received a bachelor's degree in music from Southeast Missouri State University, and a master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Michigan.

He was a band and choral director seven years at Portageville and six years at Caruthersville. He was a counselor at Cape Girardeau schools six years, and from 1965-83 he worked with the State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. He was a military liaison with the department from 1983-97.

Ailor served in the South Pacific during World War II. He remained active in the USAR and Missouri National Guard from 1946-83.

He was a member of Jefferson City First United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Retired Teachers, Missouri Vocational Association, and Missouri Counselors Association.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nancy Curtis of Hayti; two sons, Edgar Ailor III of Columbia, James Ailor of Seoul, Korea; two sisters, Chloe Wilson of Jefferson City, Betty Carl of Mt. Vernon; a brother, the Rev. James Ailor of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
