MOREHOUSE -- Funeral service for Earl Sloan of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Worth will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Sloan, 75, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at the Veterans Home.

He was born June 8, 1921, in White Oak, son of Earl and Callie Smith Sloan Sr. He and Ethel Lingle were married July 8, 1946, in Piggott, Ark.

Sloan was owner/operator of Sloan's Automotive and Tractor Machine Shop. He was a member of General Baptist Church, American Legion, and Vikings USA 21. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Earl Sloan of Sikeston, Brian Sloan of Morehouse; two daughters, Elizabeth Holland of Morehouse, Earline Holt of Heflin, Ala.; a half brother, Jim Shanks of Bell City; a half sister, June Wade of West Alton, Ill.; a stepbrother, Tommy Davis of Idalia, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
