Earl August Kamp, 86, of Jackson died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born May 4, 1923, at Burfordville, son of Albert ad Nora Bodenstein Kamp Sr. He and Jessie Evans were married June 24, 1945, at St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Kamp was a graduate of Jackson High School, and received a degree in 1942 from the National Radio Institute. He opened a radio shop on West Main Street across from the former Jackson Hotel. He owned and operated Kamp's Sales and Service from 1945 to 1959. He and one of his employees invented a welder named Mor-Amp and manufactured and sold it five years.
In 1964 he started a land clearing and farming business that he operated 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and loved woodworking, mainly making grandfather clocks.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Albert (Deana) Kamp Jr. of Burfordville, Elmer (Martha) Kamp of Jackson; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Kamp, and a sister, Elsie Shafer.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
